Our skin is the largest organ in the body and it is also the most exposed organ to harmful elements such as pollution, infection and trauma. One of the most common conditions that we can have is infection of the skin. Several things could happen and yeast infection on skin is one of them.
There are different types of yeast infection on the skin but the most common that anyone can have is called “Candidiasis”. Candidiasis is a skin infection coming from the Candida species. There are more than twenty types of Candida existing. Among the twenty, the most common type is Candida Albicans.
These fungi live on the surface of the skin of our bodies. When they multiply, they can cause infections especially in warm and moist areas. A yeast infection could result from an overgrowth of yeast.
The most common reason for getting the infection goes to moistness. Therefore, if ever you will get any yeast skin infection that part of the body goes to areas that are warm and moist on a constant basis. One such example would be the underarms.
The condition could worsen if you have a cut or laceration on that part of the skin. The opening on the skin will allow the fungi to penetrate the deeper tissue and as a result, you develop a yeast infection on skin.
Signs and Symptoms
A person infected with Candidiasis will experience red rashes on the skin that are superficial and these are surrounded by raised edges. In the central areas you can see smaller rashes that are also called “satellite lesions”. You will experience some itchiness and pain. The painful feeling gives you the desire to scratch some more
If the skin infection has been persistent for more than one to two weeks already, it is important to seek a doctor’s help. Your doctor will be able to prescribe you the appropriate medications since it has been with you for more than a week already.
For those that are still in the early stages of the infection, there are home remedies that you will find effective before you immediately decide in seeking medical help from a doctor. Some of the effective ingredients that you can use are garlic, yogurt and honey.
For garlic, apply the freshly crushed cloves on the affected areas until it will dry the skin and kill the germs that are on that part of the skin. Yogurt contains friendly bacteria and this helps fight off the fungi by preventing the multiplication of the Candida. The honey, on the other hand, creates a hydrating effect as well as antibacterial mask when you apply on the skin.
